Chapter 8 Determination

“Sir, if this tournament is successful, we will make a lot of profit, gain exposure, and our organization will be recognized internationally. What else do we even need? I mean, our success in this tournament will get us really far.” His secretary was reading all the points from the file, but the man sitting in the boss’s chair was lost in deep thought.

“Sir, are you following me?” the secretary asked, wondering if he was even listening.

“Hmm… Are all the registrations complete?” While fastening the last two buttons of his coat, he asked casually, as if he had no interest in the tournament whatsoever.

“Oh, yes, sir. We got them completed yesterday, and now we are officially starting the training.”

“Good. Then make sure everything is done properly, and arrange my meeting with Armani. I’m going to meet the new tennis team.” He was already walking down the corridor, almost running. He seemed completely unconcerned. The secretary finally stopped following him and nodded in agreement.

She was gathering the breakfast dishes with her usual reluctance, which Taya noticed.

“We must not misunderstand our elders, Gulshan. They stop their children when they feel that their decisions may not be in their best interest,” Taya said thoughtfully as she placed the dishes in the corner of the kitchen.

“But, Taya Jan, how can children be expected to understand when they aren’t even told why their elders reject their decisions? Such rigid behavior only pushes children toward rebellion.”

She was bold enough to express her point of view respectfully, regardless of whether she won or lost. She had always been courageous enough to put her feelings into words and stand up for herself, no matter how difficult it was. Taya did not say anything. She made sense. He held the remote in his hands and kept watching TV.

“Assalam-o-Alaikum. I’m good. How are you? Oh, yes, Tai has gone to Resham Phupo’s house to attend Asher’s engagement ceremony.” She had just finished doing the dishes when the phone rang. She picked it up with a pounding heart. Thank God, it was him.

“Wh… what? Really? No, I mean… I… uff… I can’t believe this. I don’t have enough words to thank you, Shahnawaz!” She dropped the phone as her voice cracked. She didn’t want to cry in front of him.

Those words were unbelievable. She tried to calm herself down and wanted to share the news with Raheela as soon as possible. But Raheela had warned her not to call out her name loudly. Still, she playfully ran up the stairs.

“Oh my God!!! Gulshan, I am so happy for you, my dearest! See, I told you. Trap this guy, and he will bring the world to your feet!” Spinning on her heels, she put her arms around Gulshan’s neck.

“Okay, tell me honestly. It feels like a dream, yeah? See, I told you, Gul. Everything will be alright. Those who believe in their dreams achieve them one day.” She used to say profound things while laughing, and Gulshan gazed at her with eyes full of admiration.

“Yes, Raheela, you are right! And you are the reason behind all this. God knows what I would do without you.” Before she could say anything more, Raheela nudged her with her elbow to get her attention.

“Oh, come on now! Don’t be so sentimental. I’m not going to forgive you for my treat, okay?”

“Okay, okay… don’t worry, you will get your treat. Come on, tell me what you want to have. I’ll pay for it,” Gulshan said as Raheela laughed.

“I will forever be grateful for whatever you did for me.” This was their first interaction after Shah Nawaz returned from Lahore.

“Hmm… no worries. You start preparing; I will convince Abu and Ami,” he said thoughtfully.

“But, Shah Nawaz, how? I mean, I don’t think they will ever allow me to go…” All the hopes she had built seemed to crumble at the thought of whether her uncle and aunt would allow her.

“You don’t have to worry about anything. You do whatever you want to. You are free to live your life, and this is the freedom I’m giving you… the freedom from the name that has held you captive for so many years,” he said without meeting her eyes, his voice filled with helplessness. Her heart ached with emotion.

“Wh… what? Are you taunting me, Shah?” Pain was evident in her eyes.

“Not at all. Freedom is your right, Gulshan, just like everyone else’s. You are free to do whatever you want to. You deserve it. I’m sorry that you had to go through all this.” He left her frozen in place. He didn’t even know that the words he had uttered so innocently had once again shaken Gulshan’s conscience to its core. She felt ashamed of having deceived him.

Oh, Shah Nawaz… if life hadn’t been so difficult for me, I would never have deceived you. I would have told you that I had no emotional attachment to you and that I was only using you to fulfill my dreams.

In the middle of one of the most famous and beautiful areas of the city stood a magnificent building, the result of Shehreyaar Khan’s day-and-night hard work. To reach this position, he had left no stone unturned.

Shehreyaar Khan was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His father, Akbar Khan, was one of the country’s elite and a famous businessman and politician of his time.

Following in his father’s footsteps, he also stepped into the world of business. But besides that, he was deeply involved in various sports.

Being the only child of his parents and the heir to his father’s property, the responsibility of carrying on the family legacy had fallen on his shoulders much earlier than expected when, suddenly, his father, Akbar Khan, was murdered.

At that time, Shehreyaar was only ten years old. He was completely broken. Bidding farewell to the world of sports, he devoted himself to studying business and eventually took over his father’s company.

During this time, he often thought about young people who were just as excited and passionate about sports as he had once been. This was the reason Shehreyaar Khan Sports Organization became one of the best and most reliable platforms for young Pakistani athletes.

The athletes trained by the organization brought honor to their country by representing Pakistan in different international sporting events.

Every year, a national-level competition was held, and selected players from across the country were inducted into teams.

A competition was then held between these teams, with teams from other organizations also participating. The players who performed exceptionally well were awarded gold medals and given the opportunity to become part of the official national team.

Just like every year, the organization was preparing to host another sports competition, which was set to officially begin the next day.
