Epilogue

Years passed, and true to Ella’s words, nobody remembered a woman named Elene. Even the river that had once borne the weight of Elene’s fading life now flowed smoothly, brushing gently against its edges.

In one small home, a little girl wearing a white dress chased butterflies across the garden. She looked as if she had taken this habit from her mother.

“Be careful, Elene, otherwise you will fall,” her mother called softly.

The girl turned, smiled, and ran again. “Yes, Mama! I will be careful… but it is so much fun.”

Ella smiled, watching her daughter with quiet affection.

There was nothing strange in her life anymore. She had settled in the same village as her parents. Sometimes, she would accompany her daughter and her husband to the beachside, and there the wind chimes would make her heart grow strangely heavy for a brief moment, as if reminding her of something she could not name.

Something she had forgotten.

She only felt it… but she had no memory of it.

She would then look toward the river.

But it remained silent.

Just like her memory.

THE END…………….

Author Note:

This is the first story for which I have mustered some courage to publish. It is my first attempt, so I was quite nervous when I submitted it to MustateeraPK.

Since it is a short story, I did not add much to it. I mainly wanted to improve my writing style through this piece, as it reflects many areas I still need to work on. Some of my weaknesses are already known to me, and I am actively trying to improve them. Others, I may come to understand better through feedback from you, lovely readers.

So, any kind of feedback, good or bad, is welcome, as long as it is constructive. Feel free to point out where you think I overdid things, and I will try to improve them in my next story.

With this story, I wanted to portray a mother’s love—how, when left helpless against fate, she was willing to do everything in her power to save her child, even if the consequences destroyed her in the end.

I also feel that at times I explained more than necessary, which is something I should work on. But since this was my first attempt, I did not fully know how to avoid it or balance it better. Hopefully, with time and practice, I will improve and become more careful in my future writing.

Still, writing this story was a wonderful experience for me, and I truly hope it was not boring to read.

I will leave it at that.

Regards,
Jiya
