Chapter Five

“Yes, tell me what the report is till now.” Haroon was quite at peace transferring his responsibility onto someone else’s shoulders. He was busy on his phone, so he asked without looking up.

“Sir, he is in the business department of a famous university. Until now, what students had said was that he would harass a girl one day or another. Sometimes in the name of ragging or sometimes when they do not listen to him. Some of his lackeys are also with him and are involved in these with him; they encourage him to do these disgusting things. And what I heard is that nowadays his focus is only on one girl. He wants to take revenge on her for disrespecting him.” He briefly says everything.

“Oh, then say clearly that they are his pet dogs. Anyway, tell me for which humiliation he wants revenge?” Haroon looks up from his phone and stares at him.

“Actually, Sir Zaman Sheikh has made life difficult for every girl, but then there is this one girl who slapped him in front of a whole crowd, and that too because he was disrespecting her friend. So Zaman Sheikh threatened her in front of all, and she didn’t care about it, so he accused her of something and then he said that he would marry her to protect her. Some students were even saying that the girl tore down all of her posters from the wall and then criticized him in front of quite a crowd. She even slapped the posters on his face. And then she calls him a coward.” Ahmar was giving all the details to him when suddenly Haroon’s thoughts wandered towards the girl on the road and he shuddered.

“Ahmar, it’s called insulting someone in a whole crowd and not criticizing someone. Haroon corrected him once again.

“Okay, Sir,” Ahmar could only say this.

“Alright, have you seen the girl? Her name and address?” Haroon wants to know more.

“Yes, sir, her name is Maheen. She lives with her family in an average neighbourhood. They belong to the middle class, and she was studying here on a scholarship.” Ahmar had done a detailed check on her, as he knew Haroon would ask about everything.

“Oh, yeah, do you have any information about her friend?” Another question.

“Yes, she belongs to a well-off family. She lived in England for some time, and now she lives here alone because her parents are abroad. One thing that I find really strange is that every time she blames Maheen, and she even advises her to stay at home for the time being so that Zaman Sheikh won’t act on his threat.” It seems like, other than drinking and eating, Ahmar has done this job in these two days.

“Okay, I want to enter that university. Get information and tell me about it. Until then, you will keep watch on them.” He gave another order and got busy on his phone again.

“Mahi, what happened, my child? You look like something is bothering you.” Today was Sunday, so everybody was at home. She told them she’ll be studying in her room, and now her thoughts were somewhere else instead of reading the book that was in her hands. Sikandar Ali came himself to give her tea, but when he saw her lost in thoughts he asked her about it.

“No, baba, nothing happened.” She suddenly came out of her daze and blurted.

“Mahi, we have all noticed that you are behaving strangely. Whatever is bothering you, you can share it with me, my dear daughter.” He was gentle with her.

“Baba, it’s study pressure, maybe it’s the beginning of the semester and now assignments, that’s why I am confused.” She made an excuse.

“When does the pressure of studying bother you? Anyway, if it is like this, then you should do combined study sessions with Sidra. It will be beneficial for both of you.” He was giving her a solution, but Mahi didn’t need that solution.

“Yes, baba, I…” her phone went off before she could complete her sentence. She looked at her phone and then towards her father, who then signaled her to receive the call, and then he went out of the room.

“Assalamu Alaikum (Peace be upon you) yes Sidra, what is it? Is everything fine?” Maheen got anxious about her sudden call because they talked about all their matters at university.

“No, nothing is okay. Come quickly, I have sent my driver.” Sidra said, and without listening to Mahi, cut the call.

“But Sidra,” Mahi got silent for a moment and stared at her phone, which was silent. She tidied up her room and went outside.

“Api (Older sister) where are you going?” Hina, seeing her preparations, asked her.

“Yeah… Ami, I am going towards Sidra. She said there was a problem. Her driver will be here any minute now.” She told them, yet she herself felt confused.

“Oh Api, can I go with you?” Hina also said excitedly

“No, Hina.. you heard her. Sidra has some problems, and if you go there as a guest, it will bother her.” Instead of Maheen, her mother replied.

“Thank You Ami… I’ll leave now.” Maheen heard the horn outside. She kissed her mother and went out.

**********

Sidra was the only child of Muhammad Haider and Rakshanda Bibi. So they love her and spoil her. Sidra and Emar were born with silver spoons in their mouths. Emar’s parents died in a plane crash. Muhammad Haider and Rakshanda also brought him up with Sidra in the same house.

As they both grew up together, they were close to each other. Emar was four years older than Sidra, but they behaved as if they were the same age. After graduation Emar shifted to England and after sometime through his company called Haider, Raskhanda and Sidra here.

Sidra suddenly developed an interest that she wanted to do her specialization in Pakistan, so she insisted to her parents and they let her come to Pakistan. She always wanted to live alone, so she adjusted with ease here.

But her parents had put a condition for her coming to Pakistan, and that was she would get married to Emar. They only do their engagement, but Sidra doesn’t care about it. So she came to Pakistan and met Maheen, and then she fell in love with someone else.
