From You to Love by Nageen Khan

Ayesha Begum was quite upset at Inshal’s behaviour. First, she complained about her dear Hamza, then yesterday, her behaviour with Bano Dadi was also not good, so now she was furiously walking towards her room.

But when she opened the door, the sight in front of her ‌made her forget her anger.

“Nisha, my dear, what happened? Why are you crying?” Because Inshal was sobbing.

“Ma…‌ mama Hadi,” Inshal said between her tears.

“Who Hadi?” Ayesha Begum asked her in a harsh tone, her forgotten anger awakened again.

“Mama, Major Haider died and Saad is also in hospital…if Major Hadi..” Inshal said with difficulty between her sobbing.

“Inshal, who are these people? Are you telling me, or should I use my slipper?”

“Oh, they are in the novel Mama…fictional characters,” now Inshal has used her brain, who knows her mother truly used her slipper.

“You are unbelievable, Nisha,” Ayesha Begum lightly tapped her head and told her to come for breakfast.

In the evening, all were present on the lawn except Emar. Saima and Ayesha Begum were busy talking to Bano Dadi while Inshal, Hamza and Zaid were playing Ludo, sitting on the grass and listening to Hamza’s soulful poetry.

I wonder what type of people they were who attained love?

I only got a garland of thorns when I asked for flowers

Hamza asked about the garland of slippers he had received earlier.

“Nisha, api, you didn’t do well with Hamza,” Zaid at last got irritated at Hamza’s poetry.

“I did well because he deserved it.” Hamza disappeared two of his Goot (pawn or piece in English) when they weren’t paying attention, and now he was trying to make the third one disappear, and he got the chance.

“Zaid, you idiot, where is your focus? This chicken is cheating.” Inshal has seen Hamza cheating, that’s why she reminded Zaid, whose all attention was on Dadi’s stories.

“Oh my God, please don’t start fighting again, you two.. let’s go sit with Bani Dadi.” Zaid had seen Inshal’s expression, and he knew she was not in the mood of playing anymore, but in a fighting mood.

“No, Maria is online on Insta. I am going inside to chat with her,” Inshal took long strides and went inside. Her intentions were clear that she didn’t want to sit with Bani Dadi…Zaid shook his head while Hamza noticed Inshal’s rude behaviour.

Bani Dadi’s stories were all about her only grandson who had fallen for a girl from Facebook, and now she was telling everyone about it.

“I had blocked that Saba witch from my own ID.” Yes, Bani Dadi has a Facebook ID.

“Huh, Phopo (Aunty), now everything is like that,” Saima Begum said.

“Ohooo Bani Darling, you should have blocked her from Insta too, but wait, tell me her id I will block her ID too.” Hamza also took part in this discussion.

“Bani Dadi, don’t tell him anything because he will not take long to make the girls who are about to be your daughter-in-law my mother’s daughter-in-law.” Zaid taunts Hamza which was heard by Emar who was coming from the back and he smiled because he also knows hamza very well but he hides his smile because both hamza and zaid were afraid of him and prevented themselves from spouting any nonsense in front of him.

“Assalam-u-alaikum Hitler……ohhhh Emar Bhai (brother) It’s my academy time so I will be leaving.” Zaid hastily made his escape from there because Saima Begum was also glaring at him while Ayesha Begum and Bani Dadi were smiling.

“I am also leaving. I think Nisha is calling for me.” Hamza also walked away.

“God knows when they will become like you, Emar,” Saima Begum lamented.

“No, Mom. If they become like me, then you and Ayesha aunty will be bored.”

“Yes, dear, Emar is right. These children are the light of my brother’s house.” Saima Begum doesn’t like Bani Dadi interrupting her, but she keeps silent because she rarely says any bitter words in front of her.

Inshal sat in the lounge and started reading Mera Humsafar (My Companion) novel. She read a little when somebody snatched mobile phone from her hand.

“Hamza, how many times have I told you not to take my phone?” Inshal said in irritation.

“Why, what’s so important about it?” Now he was using data from Inshal’s phone.

“In my phone are Maan pictures,” Nisha said automatically.

“They are on my phone, also,” Hamza replied.

“What…why is it on your phone?” Inshal glared suspiciously at Hamza.

“Everybody has their mother’s pictures on their phone,” Hamza said wisely.

“Gosh, you scared me,” Inshal sighed in relief.

“Why? What happened” Hamza gave Inshal’s phone back.

“Goodness, you chicken! I am talking about Maan, I mean Armaan Malik, the hero of the novel Mera Humsafar. He is on my phone.” Inshal cursed at his unwise answer and went to her room. Hamza took two minutes to get what Inshal was talking about, but when he realized she was talking about a novel character, he smiled at her possessiveness over a fictional character.

“I wish I were this Armaan aka Maan and you would be possessive about me too.” Hamza found this thought strange, but he liked it, so he went to his room whistling. He didn’t find this thought sinful like before because somehow he is used to it now.

“Inshal”

“What” she was studying from her notes so when Maria called her she almost screamed.

“Allah ……. Allah Nisha, you haven’t had your breakfast. Why are you acting so irritated?” They were sitting under the open canopy of the sky at the university because they were free right now. Inshal was busy studying while Maria was looking far into space. No idea what she was looking for.

“You don’t want to study, ‌but at least let me study. You just look for the stars in the sky,” Inshal’s irritation was clear in her tone.

“Okay, focus on your studies,” Maria got upset.

“Alright, don’t be upset; say what you want to say.” Inshal closed her notes.

“Nisha, how many people can we love at a time?” Maria said in a lost tone.

“Hmm…‌ love … Well, love is a pure emotion, but you know, in our society people have spread a weird superstition about love.” She stopped for a moment.

“When you fall in love with a person, then you will recognize his habits, his footsteps, even his silence. Love is a very pure emotion like our parents and siblings love us unconditionally and we love them too just like Allah loves us and once in our life we fell in love with a person and if that love is pure then Allah Almighty sealed that love with the sacred bond of marriage. And the purest form of love is marriage. Just like you can’t stop thinking about Afaq.” Inshal spoke the last sentence teasingly, at which Maria chuckled because it was the truth.

“I pray that you and Afaq will get married soon.” Inshal prayed for her friend.

“Ameen… Nisha I agree with you but you are forgetting one point: extreme hatred is also a stage of love…like you and hamza..” At maria’s point Inshal got lost in the past but she expertly tucked the thought away, like her dream but she knows that one day truth will come before everyone.

“You get lost in Hamza’s memories.” She came out of her haze at María’s voice.

“Shut up.” Inshal shakes her head.

“You guys always taunt each other.” Maria and Inshal were childhood friends. That’s why Maria knows the mischief caused by both Inshal and Hamza.

“I think I should talk to your mother so that she will get you both married soon.” Maria laughed at her bitter tone, and Inshal got up and left that place.
