Chapter Twelve
Time flew away as if it had wings, never to return again… Minutes turned into hours… hours into days, and days passed into weeks…
The world continued the same way. The moon and the sun… even the stars were still following the system Allah had created…
But everything had changed in Randhawa Mansion… Ayesha Begum was no longer there. Saima Begum no longer had the same softness in her heart. Zaid could no longer stand on his own legs and wander around the whole house like before. Inshal was no longer the same ‘Nisha’… The family no longer got involved in Hamza’s mischievous acts. Inshal no longer gave sharp replies to anyone. The two of them no longer argued and fought like they used to… And the cheerful, lively laughter no longer echoed through Randhawa Mansion.
It was as if everything had changed… Yes, time had changed. Time had changed for Hamza… Time had changed for Inshal… And for Inshal, even Hamza had changed.
The only thing that hadn’t changed was Amar’s seriousness.
No one seemed to have been affected that much… except Inshal. The girl who had never done any work before and had always been pampered was now taking care of the entire house. Saima Begum had started this just a few days after Ayesha Begum’s death… And that poor girl did everything without a single complaint.

Now Inshal doesn’t say anything, she has learned to be patient. She was trying her best to keep the promise she had made to her mother… Besides, by now, she had become an expert at every kind of work.
“How are you, Zaid?” After all, he and Amar Bhai were the only ones in the entire house whose behavior towards Inshal was still the same as before.
“The same as I am every day… helpless and What can happen to me?” Whenever Zaid got tired of his condition or had an argument with Saima Begum, he would start talking hopelessly like this.
“Ohh, don’t talk like that, Zaid. Allah Pak gets upset with such words. Despair is a sin.” Inshal placed Zaid’s breakfast on the side table and pulled a chair to sit down herself.
“Allah is still upset with me… Look, Nisha Api, neither my mother is happy with me nor my brother Hamza. And Amar Bhai only cared about his business before, and he still does,” Zaid said with a smile… a bitter smile.
Yes, but for some relationships, she was still Nisha…
“Ohh,bad manners, Zaid. I,Your Api is here with you , aren’t I?… We’ll fix everything together.” Inshal handed him a piece of toast.
“Api, nothing can be fixed here anymore.” Zaid couldn’t finish his sentence because Saima Begum entered the room.
“What are you sitting here teaching my son? Because of you, he has already broken his mother’s heart and lost his legs too. Go and make breakfast. My son hasn’t hired servants here.Just let madam talk as much as she wants…” Saima Begum left as quickly as she had come, but like always, she left Inshal with countless words… and all she could do was cry.
“I apologize for Amma, Api,” Zaid said, placing his hand over Inshal’s, letting her know that he was with her. Inshal smiled and quietly pulled her hand away.
“Forget it, Zaid. I’m going… I have to go to university today too.” By now, the two of them had become best friends. They could open their hearts to each other without any hesitation… because they were both alone.
“At least have breakfast with me, yaar,” Zaid said with a little fake annoyance, trying to lighten the mood. Inshal only smiled and then left.
**********
“Where are you going, young lady?” Yesterday had been Ayesha Begum’s fortieth-day prayer, and after all these days, Inshal was finally going to university today.
“Tai Jan, I’m going to university… My studies have already suffered a lot,” Inshal said sadly.
At that moment, Inshal, Hamza, and Saima Begum were sitting at the dining table. Inshal had already served breakfast to Zaid in his room, while Amar had left.
“What are you going to do with all this studying? Learn how to take care of a house, young lady. Learn how to run a home.” With that, Saima Begum angrily got up and went to her room.
And Inshal helplessly looked at Hamza, who was sitting across from her with his head down, eating as if there was nothing more important in the world…
**********
It feels as if sadness and loneliness
Were written in my fate.
I don’t understand how
To live in this world .
I’ve grown tired of being alone…
I no longer have the strength to live.
“Inshal… Inshal!” Inshal, who was completely busy with her favorite hobby—crying her heart out—shuddered at Hamza’s loud voice. That cruel man seemed determined to break every record when it came to being cruel. Quietly wiping her tears, she made her way towards Hamza’s room.
”Bring my shoes and clean them.” Hamza’s tone had become harsh most of the time now. But Inshal finally burst out.
“Hamza, please!!!!”
“Didn’t you hear me?” His tone was still the same.
“Hamza, I can understand Tai Jan’s behavior, but your behavior is beyond my understanding… Why are you doing this to me?”
Now, the tears were flowing freely down her face, but there was only silence from the other side.
“Hamza, please… You know how much I miss Mom.” She was now standing in front of Hamza with her head lowered.
“Hamza, just tell me what my fault is… What have I even done?”
Hamza was left stunned by her asking what her fault was. So, after insulting him… awakening his ego… and slapping him, she had forgotten everything so easily? She had crushed his pride and simply forgotten about it? Hamza’s anger rose again.
“Wow, Inshal Begum, wow!!! You deserve to be showered with flowers.”
“So now you’re making fun of my helplessness, Hamza?” Inshal looked at him in disbelief. Actually, she had taken Hamza’s taunt in a completely different way.
“How could someone like me ever be worthy of that, Inshal dear?” Hamza said in a strange tone and turned to leave, but Inshal stopped him by grabbing his hand.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, you’re a girl… Besides, beauty can defeat even the strongest of people, and you are already beautiful , dear.” Saying that, Hamza walked out of the room with long steps, while Inshal pushed away the double-meaning words he had said in such a cold tone and went downstairs, where a lot of work was waiting for her…
Yes, time really has changed…
